Today as I watch CNN new I’m deeply saddened by a story of a 13-year-old kid being gun down like an animal with no reasoning at this time. It is the 4th killing of a teenager i the Chicago area in 10 days. The 13-year-old was shot 22 times and as of today there are no witnesses to come forth. It is well known that in the black community that when a crime occurs you have to live by the “no snitch” code. It is ridiculous to have a code that when a cop assaults an african american in the community everyone bands together to make sure those cops are brought to justice. A well-known case comes to mind when 82-year-old Katherine Johnston was gun down in Atlanta, Ga back a few years ago the entire town was in an uproar and everybody who knew something came forth and several police officers were brought to justice.
The problem I have is when its a well-known thug, gang member, or drug dealer in the community then the “no snitch’ rule is in full effect. “When will my people wake the hell up”! Black men are endangered species and yet they have a hand in allowing life’s circumstances to over throw their own control and decision-making. It’s not just Chicago, Detroit, or Washington D.C. it’s happening all throughout our major cities and small towns yet we are oblivion to it all in some way.
What I feel is missing in this entire melt down is the simple fact that people don’t have any compassion for life or for one another for that matter. The Bible, God and church have been a pivotal source of refuge for the African-American community since slavery. We have always been faith-based people with love, compassion, hope and service to our fellow brother. Yet each year since the late 60′ early 70’s we have made minor strides in achieving equality and justice for our race. Many scholars and preachers have called it major strides yet I feel because the more we gained the further back God was being placed as a priority in our daily lives. Many kids under 18 have never step foot in a church yet alone prayed to our Father. It is routine that when their 2,3,4 years old that we teach them how to say their grace yet by the time the reach adolescents its “see ya and don’t wanna meet cha”. The truth is every new generation tends to live a worldly life than a Godly life. With self-help shows like Oprah and Dr. Phil we tend to seek man advice first before Gods, yet the Bible clearly tells us to “seek ye the kingdom first and all things shall be added unto you”. Many African-Americans are playing church rather than really and truly living a Christ like life.
So many preachers and self-help books are telling people who it’s ok to sin or fall short in one way or another; either way you will still get to heaven. In The Book of James chapter 4:7 the bible tells us to Submit yourselves, then go to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you, and yet it should also be added he distracts, confuse, and abuse. We as a people of ALL race creed and color must stay the course and put aside racial issues, social issues, religious issues and ethnic issues because it’s a distraction that keeps us at odds with one another. “The Killing Fields” I speak of should not only enrage the black community but it should be an outrage to any human being who cherishes a life that is given only by God for His purpose and not our own. He made us to primarily be tillers of this earth to produce and preserve yet we’ve allowed selflessness to disrupt selfishness and that my brothers and sisters is our demise. We came in the same way and we will go out the same way so there is no big I’s or little U’s i this world. You have a choice to live your life out any way you see it or you can choose to be a servant and find you destiny while learning who you are in Christ. Either way at the end of the day we as the people of God and not just American citizens (distraction) must pray for one another, must love one another and must love our God with all our might. We’ve tried it our way for centuries and yet we’ve gotten more thoughtless in a violent and cruel world, I say when you’ve done all you can do you must go back to your first love and let God be God…
IN THE NAME OF JESUS,
